The job to be done
On our research team, you help a founder understand who could move the company forward, and help that person decide whether the move is right for them. Here’s the work behind that.
Understand what needs to change
Get close to the startup’s goals. Work out what needs to be built, improved, or unlocked, which decisions the next person will own, and what success would look like. Turn that into a brief you can actually research.
Find the evidence behind the experience
Learn the market and investigate what people have built, the decisions they made, and the impact they had. Follow promising leads, test your assumptions, and explain why someone’s experience is relevant to this particular company.
Understand the person behind the profile
Start thoughtful conversations. Listen for what people want to do, what they care about, and what they’re still working through. Ask a better follow-up when something is unclear. Treat their time and trust with care.
Make a recommendation you can explain
Give the founder a clear reason to meet each person. Connect your evidence to the brief, name the uncertainties, and seek feedback where your judgment needs testing. Be willing to change your mind when you learn something new.
Help both sides make the decision
Turn what you’ve learned into useful next steps. Prepare people for conversations, surface questions that need answers, and help them work through the trade-offs. Stay close as the process moves forward and follow through after the decision.

Our value statement
We act with high agency, think like entrepreneurs, pursue success without ego, earn trust through respect, obsess over our customers and win through collaboration.
Act with high agency
Spot what needs to happen and take responsibility for moving it forward. When you’re stuck, bring a considered next step and ask for the help you need.
Think like entrepreneurs
Understand what a hiring decision means for the business. Use your time well, find a way through unfamiliar problems, and make the connection between your work and the outcome.
Pursue success without ego
Let evidence improve your opinion. Take feedback seriously, own your mistakes, and give credit freely. The strongest idea should win, whoever it comes from.
Earn trust through respect
Be direct, prepared, and reliable. Keep people informed, handle sensitive conversations thoughtfully, and follow through on what you say you’ll do.
Obsess over our customers
Keep asking whether your work helps the company make the hire it needs. A busy week means little if the important questions are still unanswered.
Win through collaboration
Share what you learn, ask for another perspective, and help a teammate get to a better answer. Your knowledge becomes more valuable when the team can use it.
You’ll need to be comfortable with unanswered questions, direct feedback, and responsibility for what happens next.
